INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR WORK


ITEM # 1 - DESKTOP PUBLISHING

The William Davidson Institute (“WDI”) is seeking independent contractors who are experienced Desktop Publishers. The scope of work requires a strong focus on execution of the project, NOT creative conceptualization. The independent contractor should be able to demonstrate superb print production skills and have worked on a variety of relevant print assignments. Independent contractor must have expert skills to create product visualizations using: InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
A fee for each case will be based on a projected time estimate from WDI's Educational Outreach team which will be determined at the assignment delivery.
STATEMENT OF WORK
Contractor shall:
a) Attend one orientation session at Institute offices to become familiar with the Institute templates used in the work.
b) Format business cases, teaching notes and other educational materials using Institute templates; electronic files which need formatting will be sent to Contractor via e-mail.
c) Return formatted cases to WDI via e-mail or via FTP to www.globalens.com within five business days of receipt. Notify WDI's designate via e-mail immediately if not able to meet any deadline.

Independent Contractors who are interested should have the following skills & abilities:
 
  • Consistent and regular access to a PC or Mac, all required software (see below) and high-speed internet
  • Expert desktop publishing skills, including proficiency in using the following software:
    • Adobe InDesign (part of CS 3)
    • Adobe Illustrator (part of CS 3)
    • Photoshop Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Superior written English skills 
  • Access to personal email account (ability to use FTP a plus) 
  • Familiarity with MLA style 
  • Familiarity with academic writing

ITEM # 2 - COPY EDITOR

The work will consist of copy editing business case studies, mini-cases and other educational materials for publication. Mini-cases are generally 3 to 4 pages and full cases studies may be 5 to 30 or more pages. It is expected, but not guaranteed, that copy editors will be asked to review the equivalent of 1 full case study per week. Documents will be provided electronically in Microsoft Word (2007 or earlier version). The copy editor will have two business days to accept or decline each document. If accepted, each job is expected to be complete within five business days.

The copy editor is to make sure that each document is clear, correct, concise, comprehensible and consistent. The job will include correction of spelling, grammar, terminology and semantic errors. The copy editor may make changes to improve the flow of the document or to improve its meaning. All edits will be done electronically with the “Track Changes” tool in Microsoft Word.

REQUIREMENTS:
Prior copy editing experience and a degree is required (English, Journalism or Communications is preferred). Familiarity with business terminology is preferred. Must have access to MS Word.

PAY: 
Will be discussed at interview; a fee for each case will be based on a projected time estimate from WDI's Educational Outreach team which will be determined at the assignment delivery. The independent contractor will invoice WDI each month and will be paid within thirty days of receipt.
