The JEWEL program is administered by the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan under a grant from Higher Education for Development. The primary objective of the program is to empower leadership and decision-making in integrated natural resources management. The three-year project also entails a Roadmap Conference in 2010 that will involve Middle East and North African practitioners and academics to disseminate lessons learned in cutting edge research and business practice.
WDI Project Administrator Makiko Omitsu is enthusiastic about the program being one of its kind in the Middle East Region. “There will be more candidates at the end of the application deadline, so we anticipate very competent and unique individuals to be part of this program. More women are interested in higher studies in hard sciences and we support their leadership to manage a complex ecological system like that of Jordan.”
