Corporate Speaker Series: Investing in Emerging Markets Topic of Speech

Thomas C. Barry, president and chief executive officer of Zephyr Management, L.P., a New York City investment management company he founded in 1994, will be a WDI-sponsored guest speaker Jan. 13 at Michigan’s Ross School of Business.

Barry, whose firm provides financial counsel and sponsors 12 specialized investment funds with more than $800 million in committed capital, will appear as part of the William Davidson Institute’s Corporate Speaker Series. His talk is titled, “Private Equity in Emerging Markets Compared with Developed Economies.”

Prior to founding Zephyr, Barry was president and CEO of Rockefeller & Co., the investment management arm of the Rockefeller family. Previously, he was employed by T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., serving as president of T. Rowe Price New Horizons Fund, Inc., then the largest mutual fund specializing in small capitalization companies.

Zephyr’s private equity funds invest in distressed municipal project bonds, private equity in Mexico, private equity in Africa, and internet service providers. Zephyr’s marketable securities funds invest in Latin America and developing countries.

Mr. Barry received an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1969 and an undergraduate degree in 1966 from Yale University, where he majored in Latin American Studies.

His speech will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Phelps Lounge. There will be a short question and answer session followed by a reception.
