Globalization of Services: Framing the Issues
Thursday, September 15, 2005, Ann Arbor, MI

WDI will host 'Globalization of Services: Framing the Issues' workshop on Friday, September 16, 2005. This workshop will focus on business and policy implications of increasing global trade in services. It will bring together a select group of leading academics and executives from around the world to share their research and experiences, and to help frame WDI research agenda on this topic.

The event will be held at Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It will be sponsored by The William Davidson Institute.

Academics will discuss their overall research agenda and findings while practitioners will share their experiences, operational and strategic challenges, projections for the future, and ways to collaborate on academic research. We hope that this dialogue between academia and industry will help better define research issues that will be supported by WDI in the future.

The workshop will be organized into three sessions. Broadly, these are:

    • Challenges and best practices on the supply side (vendors and captives in emerging economies providing services from offshore)
    • Challenges and best practices on the demand side (corporations in developed economies leveraging offshore services)
    • Policy issues and the implications of GoS on emerging and developed economies

This core group of academics and practitioners will also provide inputs for furthering the William Davidson Institute’s initiative in this area and help frame WDI research agenda on this topic. Additional conferences will be organized in the future to follow up on this launch conference.
