Talent Management - Panama

Empowerment, Engagement and Exceptional Coaching
May 29-30, 2008
Panama City, Panama

The “war for talent” has necessitated organizations to charge operating leaders with the responsibility for developing their employees, creating high performance work environments as well as the responsibility for retaining employees. Operating leaders often have not been provided the frameworks and associated skills for achieving these new responsibilities. This session will look at three leadership tools targeted at these challenges: empowerment, engagement and coaching.

Empowerment is an “old” concept that has been very misunderstood leading to the conclusions it has been rejected by employees while employees often experience requests for empowerment as inappropriate. Results have frequently resulted in frustration by both employees and leaders. Engagement may be today’s “new and improved” version of yesterday’s empowerment. Key lessons learned about effective empowerment and engagement and the role and responsibility of leaders will be identified.

The session will also focus on exceptional coaching: a coaching process building on strengths. Five “strategies” or elements for leaders are identified leading to an exceptional coaching process. Skills and tools for each of the strategies will be presented.

The session is targeted at mid-to high-level executives who see the development and retention of their human resources as a strategic imperative. The session is intended to be pragmatic oriented and to result in an action plan for implementation.
