WDI Brazil Workshop To Aid NGOs
Wednesday, April 23, 2008

WDI, along with its Brazilian partner Institute GESC, will hold a two-day workshop in Sao Paolo on strategies to enable NGOs to more effectively advocate for better healthcare policies from the government.

The “NGOs and Public Policies” workshop, on April 28-29, will bring in faculty from the University of Michigan, practitioners from WDI’s NGO Alliance in Central and Eastern Europe, and Brazilian experts. Together they will provide practical information for 50 healthcare-related NGOs from Brazil.

Kelly Janiga, the Social Enterprise research manager, will talk about social enterprise as a facilitator for advocacy on the workshop’s second day. On the first day, Janiga and WDI Social Enterprise Coordinator Andrea Shpak will talk about WDI and the Institute’s NGO Alliance.

The alliance is a coalition of public interest groups based in Central Europe, Eastern Europe and Eurasia. The Institute also has an alliance made up of members from Latin America and the Caribbean.

Members work on issues central to creating a foundation for a successful transition from a controlled to a market-based economy. The aim of the NGO Alliance is to promote networking opportunities and the dissemination of best practices.

The workshop is fully funded by healthcare giant Roche.
