Algerian Career Fair Expected To Draw 10,000
Monday, June 01, 2009
An estimated 10,000 students are expected to attend the 3rd annual Career Fair on June 9-10 at the Institute of National Commerce (INC) Career Center in Algiers, Algeria. Last year, 5,000 students and approximately 40 national and international companies participated in the career fair.
The fair is a continuation of work by WDI’s Development Consulting Services as part of the Educating Managers, Promoting Linkages and Opportunities Initiative project, a partnership between WDI, INC and the Middle East Partnership Initiative. One of the achievements of the project was the opening of a Career Center at INC, the first in the country. Since then, INC has been contacted by other Algerian universities interested in duplicating the center.
INC students have volunteered to stand at booths, and have hung posters in different schools in Algiers to publicize the event. The fair tries to bridge the gap between what the private sector employers seek and what the new graduates can contribute to firms.
The Career Center has facilitated 3,400 job placements since its inception in June 2007.
