In this session we will compare a BoP perspective to other approaches to poverty alleviation. An outcome of the session is to identify some unique implications of a BoP perspective as compared to traditional development agency programs, NGO strategies, and corporate social responsibility efforts.

In this session we will examine both the intended and the unintended “development” consequences of BoP ventures. We will discuss the particular nature of the impacts of BoP ventures and compare and contrast them to the effects of other ways of engaging the BOP.

Session #3: Expanding Poverty Alleviation Outcomes: Financing, Franchising, and Partnering Opportunities
Tuesday: 11:45 am – 1:00 pm
This session will focus on achieving scale to create broader impacts in improving people’s lives. A key focus will be on the role of partnerships – from ensuring the selection of appropriate partners, to equitably distributing benefits among partners, and to mitigating risks. We will also focus on how expanding the impact of small-scale efforts relies on effective financing and knowledge transfer.
