Juan Manuel Urrutia is a mathematician from Institut National de Sciences Appliquées from Lyon France, with an MBA from Universidad de los Andes. He is an experienced professional in the areas of strategic planning, project management in social marketing, finance, NGO development and sustainability, and policy development. He is fluent in English, French, and Spanish.
He has strong international experience as he has worked with both private and public sector social marketing institutions in the areas of Population and Reproductive Health in Africa, Asia Latin America and the Caribbean.
Mr. Urrutia worked for The Futures Group International as Regional Manager and Deputy Director for social marketing programs in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa between 1989 and 1998.
He also worked as a high-level staff member for the president of Colombia twice between 1982 and 1986, and again between 1998 and 2002 when he directed the ICBF, the Colombian equivalent to the Health and Human Services Department. Mr. Urrutia was responsible for the development and reinforcement of relationships between the public sector and the private sector in areas as diverse as nutrition, child abuse, child protection, safe motherhood, and early education. Under Mr. Urrutia’s leadership, the ICBF had an annual budget of about 400 million US Dollars, with 5000 employees working in 34 regional offices and 200 local centers.
