Tim Mahoney

Dr. Mahoney is a member of the Senior Foreign Service at USAID. He currently serves as the Director of the Office of Poverty Reduction. The Office includes USAID’s highly successful microenterprise program as well as management of the Agency’s support for Hernando de Soto’s institute, the Institute for Liberty and Democracy. Principal themes of the office include expanding economic opportunity for poor households, increasing the resiliency of poor households during periods of crisis, and legal empowerment of the poor. He has worked in USAID for over twenty five, including 5 years in India and 5 years in Indonesia. His last overseas tour was in Honduras where he served as the Mission Director for the Hurricane Mitch Reconstruction program. He has a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin.
