Compartamos con Colombia is a non-profit organization (NPO) with a unique and innovative collaborative model were 17 private competing firms join efforts to support and strengthen high impact social initiatives by donating time, resources and providing access to their knowledge base. Compartamos’ headquarters are based in Bogotá, and has operations in Medellín, extending its activities throughout the country.
Compartamos believes that to significantly improve the impact of the NPOs in Colombia it is necessary to involve the private sector not only through donations but also through knowledge and time. Compartamos’ core program, therefore, is to introduce a capacity-building strategy that transfers the value-creating assets of private businesses to NPOs.
The emphasis is put on assessing and improving the financial, institutional, strategic and legal aspects of each organization. CCC ensures a sustainable dissemination and absorption of the specialized knowledge and best practices of leading corporations to NPOs, while generating an empowerment process where the NPOs continue to provide a better and more enduring support to the community they work with, even after Compartamos’ intervention.
In only five years of operations, Compartamos has successfully developed several initiatives to achieve its objectives:
• Provided capacity-building to 60 NPOs, at a minimum or no cost. • Provided Colombians living abroad the opportunity to support the social and economic development of their motherland, by donating more than US $2.7 million.
• Promoted social responsibility by executing the social category of a national Business Plan Contest, supporting 120 social initiatives, and organizing several forums and lectures.
• Structured strategies for 3 wealthy families and 7 private companies, broadening the impact of their donations and social initiatives
• Structured and promoted the private investment of productive projects with a high social component, hence contributing for the social and economic development of marginal and at-risk regions.
Through these initiatives Compartamos empowers every sector of society, and works as a capacity-builder, a generator of social opportunities and a bridge to connect, leverage and escalate social investing in Colombia.
