GESC Institute

GESC
São Paulo - SP - Brazil

The GESC Institute (Gestão para Organizações da Sociedade Civil/Management of Civil Society Organizations) is a non-governmental organization founded by the Association of MBAs FIA/USP in 2004.  The organization is dedicated to civil society strengthening through the promotion of good management practices in the third sector.  Their mission is to advance the quality of administration in the third sector through training of professionals and volunteers in diverse civil society sectors. They strive to be up-to-date on best practices in business, to be inclusive, and to provide high-quality services.

GESC, together with their 6,000+ associates, has been developing innovative work in the field of sustainability by building and promoting networking across NGOs.  In the last 10 years, GESC has worked with 350 NGOs, educated 700 social leaders, and recruited more than 500 senior executives as volunteers.

The GESC is an improvement program for social leaders and its main objectives are to develop knowledge, professionalism and capabilities to help improve the efficiency and sustainability of organizations in the third sector and consequently their social impact.  The GESC program's differentiating characteristic is that it develops a strategic plan of action that is specific to each NGO's needs.  This process is professionally prepared by students with support and feedback from highly qualified executives and is implemented with one year of consulting support.  The NGO's progress is closely followed and during this period a consultant is responsible for following project development and providing support and solutions to concerns.

GESC programs are led by MBAs from FIA/USP and senior executives who are motivated to contribute to changing society by volunteering to deliver programs in their specialty areas. The program brings together top managers from NGOs in different sectors and engages them in unique opportunities to exchange ideas, insights and experiences.

Participants benefit by improvements in their leadership skills, strategic decision-making skills, cross-functional expertise, networking with a group of peers in other sectors and industries, and exposure to the most recent data available in the areas of Quality Management, Strategy, Financial Management, Social Marketing, Project Management, Fundraising, Leadership and Human Capital, and ITCs and the Internet.
