GESTO

Sao PauloBrazil

In the summer vacation of 2004, a group of students and young professionals with degrees in business management (and other related fields) decided to found GESTO. They believed that civil society organizations were very focused on their final activities, but had weak management competencies and practice, constraining their ultimate social or environmental result. Based on that assumption, in order to boost social impact of civil society organizations, they figured their best contribution possible would be to improve upon management skills and internal technique through voluntary consultancy services, GESTO mission.

Since then GESTO has been engaged in more than 15 consultancy projects of different dimensions, leveraging results in all kinds of civil society organizations of different natures: small “recent-born” organizations, big very well known traditional institutes, and organizations of community development, business social responsibility, environmental issues, educational activities, labor rights promotion, and still others. GESTO’s consultancy projects include all management areas, namely, strategic planning, fund rising, organizational model, volunteer management, performance indicators, market research and plan, social business plans and models, project management, IT and others. GESTO counts on a wide net of volunteers with many different specialties spread in different companies.

Since 2006, as the demand from civil society organizations aiming to count on GESTO on a non-volunteer professional basis increased, the organization changed its operational model and started with non-volunteer charged projects to address this demand. Nowadays, GESTO combines volunteer free-charge projects with non-volunteer professional basis projects to attend civil society organizations.

In the same year AVINA Foundation asked GESTO to plan and implement a financial and administrative shared services platform, managed by GESTO, in order to absorb professional activities (financial and administrative) that can become significant problems for some NGO’s. The main goal is to provide financial and administrative services to NGO’s from different natures and regions in Brazil with better quality, lower risks and lower costs then they can perform independently. This highly innovative and daring challenge is still in the works and its promised results shall be seen in 2007.
