LOF Proyecto Comunitario seeks to address the social and economic conditions causing high dropout rates, crime, drug addiction, and family problems among children. In this framework, LOF hopes to create new forms of interaction that are useful to the child population they serve and provide new tools for their social development.
With this end, LOF began work in August 2003 in the city of Búzios, in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. From the beginning, LOF has counted on the motivation and enthusiasm of several artists: Kubero Díaz, a highly-directed musician; Ana Sopeña, an experienced sculptor; art theorist and coordinator of the project Germán Burgos; goldsmith Delfin, Mapuche texile artist Emilio Cabrera, musician José Luis Alvarez, and Mapuche painter Juan Carlos Carrilaf.
The project works in three areas: eduction, social issues, and cultural issues. The artists plan to disseminate their work and the work of other artists without means to distribute their pieces, and bring together workshops, shows, and networking opportunities. LOF recently opened an
online store featuring the works of several affiliated artists.
