Membership Benefits

The William Davidson Institute NGO Alliance offers the following benefits to its members:

  1. Access to U.S. and international policy and research audiences. WDI offers numerous outlets for member organizations to publish research, highlight their programmatic successes and discuss best practices and lessons learned. The Davidson Institute policy briefs and business briefs series are outlets for Alliance members to disseminate the results of research and/or programs in a brief (5-10 page) format accessible to policy and/or business audiences. Alliance members are also welcome to submit academic papers to the WDI working paper series, one of the top-ranked working paper series on transition economics. WDI broadly distributes our publications through hard copy mailings, and through our monthly electronic research newsletter which reaches over 2000 top academics and policymakers worldwide.
  2. Networking Opportunities. An important part of the NGO Network Initiative will be an annual conference that will provide a forum for member organizations to present projects, discuss developments and new trends in their focus areas and explore areas for collaboration. WDI will facilitate relationships between members of our NGO Alliance and our Research Fellow network as appropriate.
  3. Potential funding opportunities. WDI administers a variety of capacity building programs for international development agencies such as USAID, the IFC and the World Bank. We anticipate that there will be opportunities for institutional partnerships based on such projects. The Davidson Institute's technical assistance /consulting initiative is expanding its involvement in USAID and State Department-funded projects in Central and Eastern Europe. We believe that Alliance members would be an invaluable resource in crafting proposals and effectively carrying out programs.
  4. Training Opportunities. The Davidson Institute offers a limited number of scholarships to attend WDI's highly rated Executive Education Programs held in various locations in Central and Eastern Europe. Active Alliance members would be given priority for these scholarships.
  5. Information sharing. The Social Enterprise Initiative produces a quarterly electronic bulletin, NGO Success Quarterly, that highlights achievements of network members. Network members can submit stories and announcements for inclusion in this newsletter.

As a member of the NGO Alliance WDI requests that you:
  1. Contribute to the intellectual capital of the Institute. Member organizations will be expected to submit interesting findings and results to the WDI policy briefs and business briefs series, or to the economics working paper series as appropriate.
  2. Partner with WDI on grant opportunities. WDI may ask Alliance members to work as resource partners or subcontractors on various federally-funded grant programs. We may also ask Alliance members to do some background work involved in preparing the proposals. We are confident that these partnership opportunities will prove mutually beneficial and help both organizations to build their technical assistance/consulting portfolios.
  3. Partner with WDI Research Fellows on research projects. We expect that Alliance members will have insights and access to information that will benefit our research fellow network (a virtual network of over 180 of the most renowned scholars in the field of transition economics). We ask that Alliance members be willing to partner with/assist WDI research fellows when appropriate.
  4. Help WDI grow the Alliance. We ask that Alliance members assist WDI with recruiting new members for the network. We envision the alliance to be a dynamic network, continually expanding based on trends within the third sector. We are confident that member organizations will have useful insights into new NGOs making an impact in the various program areas.
  5. Act as a resource for NGOs working in less developed countries. The Davidson Institute is increasing its activity in many Asian countries. Because the third sector in some Asian countries is less developed than in Eastern and Central Europe, there may be large benefits to cross fertilization and networking. When appropriate we may ask for Alliance members to act as mentors/resource organizations for NGOs with whom WDI collaborates in other countries.
