These cases were presented by the organizations at the 2006 Latin American Social Enterprise Symposium in Santiago, Chile. The event was co-sponsored by the Nonprofit Enterprise and Self-sustainability Team (NESsT) and the William Davidson Institute.

Mediapila Pais is a nonprofit that trains and employs women in low-income neighborhoods of Buenos Aires making tee shirts, and uses sales proceeds to train and employ more women in the skilled trade.

Fundación Arcandina's Commercial Educational Television:  Analysis of a Success

Arcandina has developed a popular children's television program called Arcandina, in which a group of endangered species travel around the world in an ark facing environmental dangers.  The show is an innovative environmental communication project reaching children in its native Ecuador, as well as the Andean and U.S. Latino markets.

Named after the Mapuche word for community, LOF is a social, educational, and artistic project that partners with the public and private sectors to create a space for artistic expression for marginalized youth and adults in a largely Mapuche area in Argentina's Patagonia region.
FUNDAMOR

The Foundation Dar Amor (Give Love), or FUNDAMOR, is a nonprofit based in Cali, Colombia that provides integrated services to low-income HIV/AIDS patients and raises consciousness in the population about the risks, causes and effects of the illness.  Among its programs, FUNDAMOR offers a home for children, integral treatment for people with HIV/AIDS, production and sales of social enterprise products, and an organic farm.

Quito Eterno provides theatrical walking tours of Quito's old city to international volunteer groups to fund their work educating local school groups on the incredible history of their city, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Compartamos con Colombia

Compartamos is an organization that provides a bridge between international consulting firms like McKinsey and Booz Allen Hamilton and Colombian nonprofits.  The firms provide the nonprofits technical assistance to strengthen the organizations, and then connects the organizations with potential donors.

Pontificia Catholic University of Peru
Case No. 9

Professor Dammert Bello outlines the legal and operating environment for Peruvian nonprofits seeking to implement social enterprises.

Parques Para Chile (Parks for Chile), an organization headquartered in Valdivia, Chile, supports the creation of well planned and managed Private Protected Areas (APP, for its initials in Spanish). There are 500 APPs in Chile, 70% of which are in individual hands.

An NGO that raises money for itself and social organizations in Lima by operating a pub, bottled water, and other ventures with a mostly volunteer staff, Voluntarios has been a social enterprise since its inception.
