STUDENT-INITIATED INTERNSHIPS

To apply for the Student-Generated WDI Global Impact Internship, please submit the following:
· Web-based application form
· Up-to-date resume
· 1 to 2-page statement of interest. The statement should be a brief proposal which identifies the organization, describes the nature of the work, impact and outcomes, any relevant experience, and why you should be selected
· A letter of commitment from the host organization, describing the project scope and objectives, designation of a Project Supervisor/Contact, and support for the internship (financial or in-kind)
· A budget which outlines expected costs, as well as funding from other sources. Outside support is strongly encouraged, but not required.
Your statement of interest and budget should have your name and email at the top of all pages.
The complete application package is due on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at noon.
How to Submit Your Application Package
Fill in the web-based Application Form and submit online. Email your resume, statement of interest, letter of commitment from host organization and budget as individual attachments to WDI-Internships@umich.edu. Put “Last Name – 2008 Student-Initiated Internships” in the subject field of your email.
Timeline
- Applications are due Thursday, February 14, 2008 by noon.
- Applicants of self-generated internships will receive an email offer by Feb 27.
- Students accept and commit by email March 3, 2008.
- Interns are expected to attend a mandatory orientation. Date and time are TBD.
- Internships are expected to occur from mid-May to mid-August 2008.
Students not selected can apply for WDI Initiative-Driven internships
Note:
Internships must be a minimum of 10 weeks in length with 12 weeks preferred. Projects should be scoped to address a particular problem or issue. The proposal must outline specific expected outcomes. Please note that WDI will not fund every proposal that is submitted, and accepted proposals may not receive the maximum award. The number of applicants and the quality of proposals will impact the number of awards granted. Preference will be given to projects with more than one source of funding, including funding by the partner organization.
