2006 Internship Recipients

Sean Armstrong (MBA '07)

Sean worked with BioRegions International Inc.in Mongolia. Sean carried out a feasibility study of a community health insurance system. 

Michael Baratoff (MBA/MS Erb Institute '08)Matthew Garratt (MBA/MS Erb Institute '08)

Matt and Michael worked with E+CO in Ghana.  They performed portfolio monitoring and evaluation, evaluated triple bottom line investments, and assisted with E+CO's strategy development for the "Erase Your Footprint Campaign".

Karen Biddle (MPP '07)

This summer, Karen worked in Costa Rica for the Community Agroecology Network. CAN is a small nonprofit organization located on the University of California Santa Cruz campus whose mission is to develop an international network committed to sustaining rural livelihoods and environments by integrating research, education, and trade innovations.

Molly Christiansen (MBA/MPH '08)

Molly worked for Hindustan Lever Limited and Scojo Foundation in India. Molly conducted market research, evaluted both organizations' monitoring and evaluation processes, and recommended an impact assessment strategy and metrics and to better evaluate the social impact of the enterprises at the community level. 

Sheila Collins (MBA '06)

Sheila worked with NESsT in Santiago, ChileSheila worked in two main areas, the first being the expansion of the NESsT Venture Fund and the second being support in the preparation of and follow-up to First the Latin American Social Enterprise Symposium.

Michael Garris (MBA/MPP '08)

Michael worked for GlobalGiving in Washington, DCMichael worked with GlobalGiving’s supply team to improve knowledge of the philanthropic sector and grow the emerging network of project organizations as well as conduct statistical analyses to aid the supply and marketing teams. 

Ekta Kothari (MBA '07)

Ekta worked with Perot Systems. Ekta traveled to South Africa and China to analyze the impact of growing Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) on corporations, develop buyer/supplier strategies, and explore emergence of new offshore destinations for these services.  

Zoe McLauren (PHD Economics and Public Policy)

Zoe worked with the Botswana Central Statistics Office and University of Botswana. The objective of her summer research was to (a) gain access to Botswana’s proprietary data sets on HIV/AIDS and socio-economic factors, (b) augment data analysis with in-country experience, fieldwork, and meetings with policy makers, and (c) foster the research partnership between University of Michigan researchers and the CSO.

Blair Miller (MBA '07)

Blair worked with Ashoka's "Full Economic Citizenship Initiative".  Blair worked on a survey to assess the perceptions of businesses and CSO's to engage in commercial partnerships.  In addition Blair worked in India to develop a micro health insurance product for low income populations.

Fred Nelson (MBA/MS Erb Institute '08)

Fred worked with the Tanzania Natural Resource Forum in Tanzania.  Fred worked with the private sector, non-governmental, and local community actors to analyze existing community joint venture ecotourism initiatives, develop recommendations for strengthening the business model, and disseminate the findings though locally appropriate media.

Gabriela Reyes (MBA/MPP '07)

Gabriela worked with Ashoka's "Full Economic Citizenship Initiative".  Gabriela worked on a survey to assess the perceptions of businesses and CSO's to engage in commercial partnerships.  In addition Gabriela worked in Mexico on a project to bring drip irrigation systems to low income populations.

Rajeev Soni (MBA '06)

Rajeev worked for Worksoft, a pioneer and leader of the IT outsourcing industry in China. Rajeev assisted the Worksoft management team in corporate merger and acquisition (M&A) projects, conduct IT service market research and competitive analysis to develop a broad growth strategy.

Venky Sridharan (MBA '06)

Venky was in India examining the use of Jatropha as a renewable energy crop in developing countries. His research will result in a teaching case study.

Joshua Tetrick (JD/MBA '07)

Joshua worked for the The Integrated Framework in Lesotho. Joshua worked with the IF, the government, and the global agencies to improve the operation of the Investment Promotion Authority within the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Marketing.

Adarsh Das (MBA, ’06)

Ed and Adarsh worked on a project analyzing potential modes of entry into the carbon-credits market related to a rice-husk based power plant in Bali, Indonesia.

 
Vijay conducted a research project on the impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), including telecenters and information kiosk initiatives, in India.

 
Mayuri worked on a two-part project for the U.S. Department of State’s International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), evaluating the effectiveness of IFAD’s NGO partnerships and reviewing its agricultural trade policies.

Ankita Kumar (MBA, '06)

Ankita consulted for Kalakar Trust, an Indian nonprofit arts organization seeking both to preserve cultural practices and improve self-sufficiency in marginalized artist communities. 

 
Kevin provided business strategy development assistance for LCAN Trading Company, a recycled plastics manufacturing facility in Rajin, North Korea.

Bill McElnea (MPP, ’06)
 
Bill worked on several business and policy projects with the Cross Border Institute for Regional Development (CBIRD), a bi-national collaborative initiative between the U.S. and Mexico, dedicated to supporting economic development in the U.S.-Mexico border region.

Josh Rosenfeld (MPP/MPH, ’07)
 
Josh worked with the UN-World Food Programme’s Cambodia office to evaluate recent food-for-work projects and assist with building NGO partnerships to enhance program sustainability.

Ana Karina Rozas (MPP, ’06)
 
Karina worked with the Santa Fé de Bogotá Foundation, a private, nonprofit health delivery system in Colombia, conducting project valuations on a number of new medical technologies and service initiatives.
